Sumala is an Indonesian horror film based on an urban legend. It is about a Semarang woman who is a witch and worships the devil. The movie includes Indonesian actors and actresses Makayla Rose Hilli (Sumala/Kumala), Luna Maya (Sulastri),and Darius Sinathrya (Seodjiman), who play the main roles in the movie. 

The movie starts when Sulastri is forced by her husband (Seodjiman) to have kids. Knowing she can’t have any, she hears about a Semarang woman who can help her. When she pays a visit to the woman, she mentions that she worships the devil and the only way Sulastri can get pregnant is if she makes a pact with the devil to have children. With no choice left, she agrees and makes the pact with the devil. 

Before Sulastri left, the woman warned that when both twins are born, one will look different and that, no matter what, they need to treat them fairly and no differently than the other or else when the “ugly and deformed” twin turns 10, bad things will happen to their family. 

In my opinion, I would rate the movie a 9 out of 10. It wasn’t as scary as other horror movies, so you can actually enjoy it without being too creeped out or disgusted. The movie is also kind of low-quality so it helps with those that can’t handle too much horror. The movie also has an interesting plot twist. Though I enjoyed the movie, in some parts it was kind of confusing, such as the end, as it leaves you wondering what really happened to Sumala.
