“Five Nights at Freddy’s” is a horror game series that made many of its fans anxious, yet ecstatic for the movie adaptations that are releasing. Just recently on Dec. 5, 2025 the “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” movie released and with it came alarming initial reviews from critics. Critic reviews rated this movie horribly, giving it a 16% on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating the movie is “rotten¨. Not to mention, the movie received a 26% meta critic score and a 5.6/10 on IMDb.
When I went to watch the movie I came into the theater with a clear mind, because, as many movie goers have come to agree upon, critic reviews rarely accurately portray how good a movie really is, especially when it comes to video game movie adaptations. Regardless of these negative reviews, I was extremely excited to see the new movie, as I had watched the first one and enjoyed it. It must also be mentioned that I have been a huge fan of the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” franchise since I was young, so I would enjoy the movie regardless of whether or not it was a complete slop.
While this may be true, I can still confidently say that this movie is great in the sense that it fulfills the cravings that fans had been having. It throws out as many references as possible that fans have been dying to see on the big screen, while adding a bit of thrills and jump scares. The movie’s plot and writing is about as good as a PG-13 horror movie can be, however the atmosphere created, animatronics used, and sets made for the film were great.
Overall, the movie did its one job, and that is to entertain and fulfill the dreams of fans who wished this movie showcased how materials from the original game would look in cinema. Even though critics may have found this movie to be terrible, the movie is clearly successful amongst its target audience, which is why I believe that this a movie for the fans.
