This eye-catching post-apocalyptic musical drama film was released on Mar. 8, 2025 in America, written and directed by Geremy Jasper. It is a retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. It stars American actress Sadie Sink as the main character, O’Dessa.
O’Dessa is a farm girl who embarks on an epic journey to retrieve a cherished family heirloom in the post-apocalyptic future. Her journey soon leads her to a strange and dangerous city where she meets many interesting people, including her one true love.
But in order to save her love’s soul, she relies on her music and destiny to put a stop to the evil overlord, Plutonovich, played by Australian actor Murray Bartlett. This musical film came off as a little weird from the outside, but it was surprisingly well made at the same time.
It was both an intriguing and heartbreaking love story inspired by Orpheus and Eurydice, which I should have known, because the love interest’s name is Euri (played by Kelvin Harrison Jr.). The musical’s visuals have also been heavily inspired by the movie “Labyrinth”, starring David Bowie, from 1986.
The film is visually stunning and bold, and, in my opinion, the soundtrack is so incredibly beautiful. Sink did an amazing job, and I knew she could sing, but her performance absolutely blew my mind. The musical is definitely not for everyone, and it isn’t an easy watch that just hands you answers. If you’re looking for a movie with a satisfying ending, this is not the best one to start with.
It did feel more like an artistic statement than a full story, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I highly recommend this for people who like that kind of story, but if you know you don’t like that kind of stuff, this might not be for you.
