“Wings of Starlight”, written by Allison Saft, captures the magic of Pixie Hollow in this Disney Fairies book. The story follows Clarion, Queen of Pixie Hollow, before she ever became the queen. The book is in her point of view and shows the romance between her and Milori, Lord of Winter.
The book starts off with Clarion having doubts about her upcoming coronation. She fears that she will never be able to control her magic, and that she was never meant to be a governing talent. Milori carries a heavy weight he alone must carry.
Clarion and Milori must team up together when the threat of monsters invading arises in Pixie Hollow. Their alliance against a shared threat blossoms into a forbidden romance, with themes of love, duty, and an ancient divide between the realms.
If you watched the movie “Secret Of The Wings” in the “Tinkerbell” movie franchise when you were younger, you’ll have an idea of the ending they had after the events of this book took place. Fans of Disney Fairies have wanted a prequel to the movie for years, and Saft finally delivered.
The reviews on this book were a ⅘ stars, so most people loved it, but a few reviews complained about there having little to no depth in the characters and Clarion acting like like a spoiled child. For one, of course she would be a little spoiled. She’s a soon-to-be queen, and a child, so it makes sense she would act younger than she is in the movies, because she was.
And for the complaints that she was born from a shooting star instead of a baby’s first laugh, that was intentional and confirmed by Disney Fairies. Despite these complaints, this book was very enjoyable for many people. It was heartbreaking, magical, and felt complete.
Overall, I would give it a ⅘ because it might not be absolutely perfect, but it was incredible. I highly recommend this book if you loved the “Tinkerbelle” movies and books as a kid. Even if you know nothing about the universe, it’s a really great romance book for any romance reader.
