In the 2025 Copa Del Rey final, Jules Kounde, the starting defender for Barcelona, gave them the lead in the last minutes of extra time with a pass he intercepted from Luka Modric, center mid for Real Madrid.
Before all that, Pedri, center mid for Barcelona, scored the first goal in the 28th minute of the game. Then came half-time, when Kylian Mbappe subbed on for Real Madrid. Then in the 77th minute, Frenkie de Jong “fouled” Mbappe, which sparked major controversy between the two teams and their fanbases.
The Real Madrid fans argued that it should have been a red card, while the Barcelona fans argued that Mbappe flopped for the foul and it shouldn’t have counted. Sadly for Barca fans, it was counted as a foul by the referee, however it wasn’t a red card. Mbappe stepped up to the ball, shot, and scored his first ever direct freekick. This ultimately sent the game into extra time. As the teams stepped back onto the pitch, they mentally prepared themselves for the game ahead of them. One goal was all they needed to win. One goal could change the game.
For the first half, both teams gave it all they got, preventing each other from scoring and creating chances to score. It was 15 minutes of nothing. Then the ref blew the whistle for half-time. In the 116th minute, Kounde scored from outside the box to give Barcelona its 32nd Copa Del Rey trophy. Overall, the match was amazing. Both teams played well but there were a lot of controversial fouls.
