As students of Oakmont High School settle into their annual school routines, the drama department is preparing for their upcoming theater production: “Puffs.”
The main concept of “Puffs” revolves around the Harry Potter universe, solely focused upon the Hufflepuffs, one of the four main houses in which students are assigned under their enrollment in the wizardry school.
Liam Thomson, an actor in the play, shares his favorite things about “Puffs.” While Thomson appreciates the “Harry Potter” franchise, he also enjoys the play’s twist on the series.
“My favorite thing about the play is that although it’s technically a spin-off of another universe, it can also be interpreted as its own story,” Thomson said.
One key element that makes this a successful production is the chemistry within the cast, obtaining a strong bond on and off the stage.
Mady Gibbons, junior and president of drama club, confirms that the production’s cast is very compatible with one another, making her job as stage manager and co-designer easier.
“I think they work fabulously together,” Gibbons said. “I feel like everyone’s already friends off stage, so it makes working for them really easy.”
Although there was a decrease in participants for the play due to half of the club being seniors last year, there was still a solid showing for auditions.
While it is hard to fill the past class’s shoes, many underclassmen were seen at auditions and casted into several roles.
The production’s cast and backstage crew are constantly in the haze of chaotic fury, getting everything ready for opening night.
Audiences that attend “Puffs” are ensured to leave the theater laughing due to the play’s comical, lighthearted script.
Freshman Anand Gill, who will star as the play’s narrator, is hopeful for audience satisfaction, guaranteeing the show will be enjoyable in many aspects.
“The jokes and acting skills [are both something to look forward to],” Gill said. “Everyone in the cast agrees that whoever was cast for [a] certain part was the best person for that role.”
At the end of the day, we wish Oakmont Drama good luck on their upcoming production, and are excited to see “Puffs” on stage.
“Shows are October 12, 13, and 14 [and] we have a matinee on the 14th at 2pm,” Gibbons said. “Come see it.”
