After the $2 billion giant Avengers: Infinity War left audiences aghast with its ending, it would make sense that there would be heavy anticipation for the sequel’s trailer. Fans have been speculating for weeks and even months to when it would come out. But now, it’s finally here. The trailer released early Friday morning, December 7, and in 24 hours reached a record 289 million views.

As the trailer begins, things are looking quite stark for the Avengers — no pun intended. The trailer starts with Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) stranded out in space recording a message for his lover of ten years, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), using his Iron Man helmet. He has been out of water and food for four days and his oxygen is going to run out by the next morning. On his last leg, he is only thinking of Pepper. Back at Avengers HQ, things aren’t looking much better for Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) and Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson).

“This is gonna work, Steve,” Black Widow says.

“I know it is, because I don’t know what I’m gonna do if it doesn’t,” Captain America replies.

It looks like they have a plan, but in their weakened state, pulling it off may be near impossible.

The title screen at the end of the trailer reveals the long-awaited title of the follow up to Avengers: Infinity War is called Avengers: Endgame. After the title reveal, Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) shows up outside Avengers HQ on their security cameras. It was to the character’s beliefs that Ant-Man was “snapped” at the end of his 2018 summer blockbuster Ant-Man & The Wasp, but clearly, he is back and just maybe, he is the key to solving the mess that the last movie’s antagonist, Thanos (Josh Brolin), created.

Avengers: Endgame is set to hit theaters April 26, 2019.
