That time is officially here again; getting dresses from Windsor and Princess Polly, planning dinner, pictures, an afterparty, and drawing posters for “ask week”. It’s homecoming season, baby. And this year’s theme is “Once Upon A Hook”, a Disney themed October dance.
Theme options were announced on Friday Sep. 5 on Minga for students to vote for. When the polls came back, the winner was obvious. The options were: May The Hoco Be With You (“Star Wars”), Destination Hoco (Around the World), and Once Upon A Hoco (Disney). May The Hoco Be With You won 20% of the popular vote and Destination Hoco won 33% of the popular vote, leaving Once Upon A Hoco as the winner, with 47% of the popular vote.
The theme was announced during first lunch on Wednesday, Sep. 9 through an Instagram post by @theoakmontway. The video features ASB students flipping newspapers around with the theme written across them in order to the tune of classic Disney music.
Once student government knew who their winner was, they had to narrow down class float themes. As of now, they’re choosing between the hallmark princesses we all know and love from Disney’s numerous cult classics. These include “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (Snow White), “Beauty & the Beast” (Belle), “The Little Mermaid” (Ariel), “Aladdin” (Jasmine), “Cinderella”, “Frozen” (Anna and Elsa), “Tangled” (Rapunzel), and “The Princess & the Frog” (Tiana).
Class meetings took place on Thursday, Sep. 11 in the cafeteria during second period intervention, where classes voted on the theme they want. Seniors got first choice, Juniors second, Sophomore students got third, and Freshmen students picked last. The Senior theme is “Frozen”, the Junior theme is “Tangled, Sophomores picked “Aladdin”, and Freshmen got “The Little Mermaid.” More information is to come about float building, as supplies are still needed. The Freshman and Senior classes still need hosts for the meetings as well.
Tickets are on a flash sale on Monday, Sep. 15 only for $20. After Monday, tickets will increase to $30 from the 16th to the 19th. The following week, the week of the 22nd-26th, tickets will be $35 dollars. The week after that, the 29th to the 4th of Oct., tickets will be at their highest price of $40. Students with the Viking V.I.P. card can buy a ticket for $20 all three weeks. Tickets are available at Student Services in the front office and bids are already on sale for $5.
Although the theme may be similar to last year’s Neverland theme, student government and their adviser Nicole Haynes are sure to make it a night to remember. When the clock strikes seven PM, our pumpkins will turn to carriages and the Oakmont Vikings will dream the wishes their hearts make at homecoming 2025.
