Even amid the controversy over the Venezuela deportations, Trump has issued an order for a new travel ban, but it’s not official yet.
A list made by the Trump Administration was published and color-coded by the New York Times, featuring over ten countries, most of them in the Middle East and North Africa, set to be prohibited from travel to the United States, with dozens more under a watchful eye.
There are specific categories for the countries Trump wants to ban. Countries under the immediate ban, tagged “red” by the New York Times, include Libya, Yemen, Venezuela, Afghanistan, North Korea, and Somalia. The other two also fall under categories: those with an orange “partial visa suspension”, and those on a yellow “probationary period.”
According to the New York Times, countries with “visas sharply restricted”(the partial visa suspension) include Myanmar, Haiti, and Pakistan. Among the countries on the list of those on probation, with “60 days to address concerns,” are Angola, Chad, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Zimbabwe.
But those concerns were unaddressed. Mar. 21, the deadline for the submission of the list, did not yield any results.
This is not the first time that the Trump Administration has enacted travel bans. In his first term, Trump issued a smaller, yet similar, series of travel bans on many of the same countries, notably those where most of the population was Muslim.
The reason for the postponement of the ban and date is not yet known. Even though there is no date, however, the Trump Administration is still working on making the travel ban official, according to USA Today.
Tammy Bruce, a member of the State Department, said that “[just] because there’s not a date, it doesn’t mean that it’s not being worked on.”The travel ban may be postponed for now, but immigrants from the aforementioned countries are encouraged to look out for themselves and their visas.
