It indeed wasn’t a phase, Mom.

Day one of the When We Were Young festival in Las Vegas was canceled due to extreme weather concerns. Originally, it was stated that festival organizers improved their wind blockers. It was completely safe and ready for action, unfortunately that did not go according to plan.

As a group, festival organizers decided that the 30-40 miles per hour wind was enough for the festival to be canceled. It was too dangerous for the artists, staff, and all the emo/rock fans attending. Thousands of people were waiting for 10+ hours, only to be crushed an hour before the festival was supposed to start.

The cancellation was on Oct. 22, but that was only the first day. The second day however, Oct. 23, went amazing. 60,000 fans showed up for 65+ acts. Festival organizers did release a statement on social media.

“Under advisement of the National Weather Service and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, we have no other choice than to cancel today’s When We Were Young Festival.”

Thousands of elder emos wanted to relive their youth, while thousands of baby emos wanted to live their youths. Even though thousands of people were devastated due to the cancellation, the rest of the show went great. A few bands, such as The All American Rejects posted on social media new shows to make up for the cancellation.

“FREE Rejects show TONIGHT. 9pm …”

Multiple bands came back together, performed songs that have never been performed live before, and it was definitely a time to remember. Pierce the Veil and Sleeping With Sirens made the most extreme, iconic surprise duo.

Together, Vic Fuentes (lead singer in Pierce the Veil) and Kellin Quin (lead singer in Sleeping With Sirens) sang Pierce the Veil’s most popular song: “King For A Day.” Not only did they sing it, they made the music video come to life.

In the original music video, Pierce the Veil worked in a bank wearing suits while being bossed around and treated unfairly. They walked into the bank together wearing sunglasses and had their hair swooped. In their When We Were Young performance, they had sunglasses and the same OG swooped hair.

The festival was a success, everybody loved and sang along just as they did when they were young.
