Oakmont Dance produced the Senior Spotlight show on March 6 and 7; the show recognized the seniors that have been in the program.
“The senior show is so much fun because it’s the last few months of high school and you really just want to get yourself out there,” senior dancer Julianna Germono said. “It’ll let you live up the last few moments of high school with senior dancers who are feeling the same way you are.”
All seniors who have been in the Dance 2, 3, and 4 classes were given the chance to participate in this show. The Senior Spotlight show is student-produced, with the goal being to give seniors the chance to highlight their individual talents developed throughout their years in the dance program.
“Ms. B. and Mrs. Caruso have been [like] my moms away from home,” Senior Spotlight student director Ari Roth said. “They have taught me to love myself and everyone else no matter what or who they are.”
The dance teachers aim to build a family-like environment where a dancer can freely express their thoughts and feelings. In addition to this, they try to offer students a chance to take on leadership roles like being a student director that will prepare them for the future.
“It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be a leader and lead a class,” student director Kayecee Pati said. “I never thought of being [a student director], but Ms. B. thought I had the potential to be a leader within the class.”
For some graduating seniors, this show may have brought forth a happy ending to this chapter of their lives.
“It is a great place to make new friends through doing something fun,” Germono said. “In other classes, like math it’s not as fun as dance class where you get to make choreography and dance to fun music.”
The seniors and the other underclassmen in dance will be having a Spring show. Part 1 is on May 20 and 21 and Part 2 is on May 22 and 23.
