At Oakmont High School, we had a spirit week to kick off the first home football game of the season. The football game was against Roseville High School: the Vikings’ rival. To show our Oakmont spirit, we had a full week of spirit.
Monday, Aug. 25, was beach themed. People wore leis, swim shorts, and sunglasses to be beachy and show their Oakmont spirit.
Tuesday, Aug. 26, was twin day; Find a friend and match with them. Some people wore Oakmont attire like Norse Notes t-shirts, senior sunrise shirts, Oakmont sports clothing, etc.. Some people wore matching colors to get points..
Wednesday, Aug. 27., was “Wednesdays We Wear Pink”, as an homage to the cult classic film “Mean Girls.” Seniors shirts for the senior sunrise event were pink, so a lot of the seniors wore these to show their support. Other grades wore anything that was pink or had pink on it. Many people had pink shirts or at least clothing with some pink on them.
Thursday, Aug. 28, was sports wear. Students wore any sports gear like jerseys, t-shirts, or any pieces of clothing. One could wear any kind of sports and our school sports like baseball, basketball, volleyball, and more.
Friday, everyone wore their class shirts. Freshman shirts are white, sophomores are columbia blue, juniors are navy blue, and seniors are tie dye. They all have the name of their grade with the Viking Voyage ship.
Along with our spirit, Friday night also featured a tailgate event, Girls Flag Football and a Varsity Football game.
The tailgate event was first at around 5:00 PM, then the Girls Flag Football game started at 6:00 PM, and Varsity Football began at 7:30 PM. It was a home game with a full O-Zone.
People showed up for Girls Flag Football then stayed for the football game. This meant we had a big student section for the first football game of the season. Everyone was dressed up according to the theme of the night: blue and white.
Everyone wore their class colors, along with blue and white for our Oakmont student section. We had a great student section, with lots of students dressed up and cheering for their Vikes on the turf.
