“The Conjuring: Last Rites” is being released in theaters on Sep. 5 as one big final goodbye from Ed and Lorraine Warren, the famous paranormal investigators that started it all. The movie promises to deliver another thrilling chapter in the “Conjuring” cinematic universe based on—supposedly—real events.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star alongside Mia Tomlinson to reunite for one last case which renowned, real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren described as a “powerful and spine-chilling addition” to the franchise. Farmiga and Wilson star alongside Tomlinson and Ben Hardy, who portray the Warren’s daughter, Judy Warren and her boyfriend, Tony Spera.
The first social media reactions dropped and they have been mostly positive. “The Conjuring: Last Rites” is being hailed as the scariest installment yet, with Wilson and Farmiga receiving the lion’s share of praise from critics. It has also been called a “perfect ending” to Ed and Lorraine’s story.
Others had more mixed reactions to the movie, saying that it isn’t as scary and “surprisingly dull.” Despite the poor reviews, fans are ignoring everything, buying tickets, and are here for the ride–even if some theaters have a bishop outside handing out prayer cards and holy water blessings.
For a special screening of the movie in August Bishop Bryan Ouellette of the Holy Nicholean Catholic Church gave blessings to attendees in Pharr, TX. The blessing ritual involved sprinkling holy water on people entering the Cinemark Pharr Town Center and XD, and some attendees were given small bottles of holy water, as well as cards featuring St. Michael the Archangel to take with them into the theater.
If you’re into the paranormal, scary movies, and have seen the previous movies, definitely give the final movie a watch and see for yourself.
