Wednesday Addams is back for yet another mystery at Nevermore Academy with her newfound psychic abilities. It’s been nearly three years since the first season, so people have waited very impatiently. “Wednesday” has gained 29.1 million views in just its second week on Netflix, with season two, so far, being described as a stark contrast to the first season. Some have loved it, while others don’t like it at all.
“Wednesday” season two reviews are mixed but largely positive, highlighting Jenna Ortega’s performance and Tim Burton’s direction as consistent strengths. It also has some criticisms about the season being two parts, with an overcrowded and inconsistent plot. Meanwhile, some critics have found it to be a strong follow-up with high stakes and a compelling mystery.
While the second part of this season is yet to be on Netflix (which fans are upset about), it follows a darker, more complex mystery that has people on the edge of their seats. The mystery involves a crow-controlling stalker, or an avian, and outcast deaths. The Addams family, particularly Gomez and Morticia Addams, have larger roles and create new family dynamics.
They have also introduced brand new characters, with guest stars like Steve Buscemi, Heather Matarazzo, and Billie Piper. This season also abandons the love triangle that Wednesday had in the first season, however, some fans have still been holding out hope for one of them.
Following the abandoned love triangle, it shifts the focus to Wednesday’s psychic development even further, with part one ending on a significant cliffhanger. Fans were fast to create new theories and mysteries after the part came out on Aug. 6. While many are upset they have to wait for the second part on Sep. 3, others think it creates more anticipation and enthusiasm.
Overall, everyone can agree that this season has much more suspense than the first, and has improved much more in the visuals of the Burton style. This show is highly recommended by many people if you’re a fan of Burton’s movies, as well as Ortega, or any of the actors.
