As the school year at Oakmont is rapidly ending, seniors are deciding where they will be going for College to continue their education, athletic careers, and possibly joining the military.
Deciding where to go is a challenge for most seniors. Multiple factors like price, location, and even the education you will receive are all big factors that can possibly affect one’s decision.
Angel Mejia played soccer his senior year here at Oakmont. Mejia has been at Oakmont for all four years and enjoyed them. Mejia is choosing to attend a local community college, Sierra College
“ The counselor transition made the process [for Sierra] easier than other colleges,” Mejia said. “The information was easier to find and get.”
Additionally, Mejia chose business administration as his major.
“ [Business administration] is a good major because it is super diverse and you can do a lot of different things in [business administration].”
Liam Mccue played football all four years. He was on varsity for three of his four years and played offensive and defensive linemen. Mccue chose to join the Military after high school.
“There were no better options and college wasn’t the right fit for [me],” Mccue said. “ The Marines is the best for me, I want to be able to travel and there are more career paths afterwards.”
Mccue plans on staying for four years and after he plans on getting his welding certifications and “Potentially do welding or something like HVAC.”
Beau Ogles played football for four years and for three of the four years he played on varsity. Beau played quarterback and is known for leading them to the playoffs in the 24-25 season.
Ogles is gonna continue his academic and athletic career at Arizona Christian University. Beau is excited to be able to “Make a lot of new friends with his teammates, {and live} in a new city, and just enjoy the atmosphere.
Ogles chose ACU because it was his best scholarship offer.
“It’s a dream I get to have a scholarship offer and be able to continue what I love.”
Beau plans on playing football and after “ Finding a good business to join.” Beau plans on majoring in business.
Calli Swensen did dance all four years and was involved in IB dance here at Oakmont. Additionally, she has been involved in journalism for four years and is the co-editor-in-chief. Swensen has also done track and field for three years.
Swensen decided to go to Brigham Young University because she’s “always wanted to go there for most of her life, I have family who lives there too.” Calli plans on taking psychology and wants to be a clinical or family therapist.
“I want to be able to help people,” Swensen said. “I enjoy helping others and helping other people’s well being.”
