Oakmont has a lot of talented athletes, some of which plan on continuing their athletics after high school. But who are some of these committed athletes, and where are they planning on going?
The first few athletes will be committing to Sierra College for football. These athletes are Dylan Wagner, Quin Duran and Seth Starkey.
“It feels pretty good to have the opportunity to get a good education and be able to play football…I will be playing defensive end,” Wagner said. “With the right mindset, I could [potentially go] D1 or D2 [after Sierra].”
Typically, D1 schools are the best rated schools for a sport. Wagner plans on going to Sierra to get a greater education, and plans to continue playing football. After his years at Sierra, he plans to make it to a Division 1 or 2 rated school for football.
Our next few athletes have committed to colleges further away; specifically, Santa Barbara City College and Sac State. These athletes are Maguire Hughes for football (Santa Barbara City College), and Trevor Wilson for baseball (Sac State).
“I’ll be playing middle linebacker [for Santa Barbara],” Hughes said. “[I’ll be] majoring in communications, so I hope to get a job in [either] broadcasting or some sort of public speaking.”
These last two athletes featured are Beau Ogles and Jaylan Patterson. A commonality between Jaylan and Beau are that they are both going out of state for college. Ogles will be going to Arizona Christian University, whereas Patterson will be going to Hawaii Pacific University.
“I am super excited…I can’t wait to start living in Arizona, I can’t wait to learn a whole new offense, [and] make a whole bunch of new friends [overall], [I’m] super excited for it.” Ogles said.
Overall, our athletes are extremely dedicated, and will continue to work hard for the sports they play.
