On the 25th, the movie “Until Dawn” was released. As of writing this, the movie has a 53% on Rotten Tomatoes for critics and 68% for normal viewers. The movie has differing character deaths including; stabbings, bisectings, neck snappings, possessions, and more.
The movie starts with a chase scene. The character being chased is Melanie Paul. Melanie is the sister of Clover, and, after the death of their mother, she left and went missing. A year after Melanie’s disappearance, Clover and her friends go to the last place she was seen: Glore Valley. They find some information on Melanie and go to the place she stayed at. They sign into the lodge and the loop starts. They eventually see what is happening to them after these deaths and have to survive the night. They confront the villain and escape with a chase scene. During the movie, someone gets stabbed in the eye, someone gets sliced in half, and a few get possessed.
The movie has some references from the game, but it also has some differences from the game adaptation as well. The main difference between the game and the movie adaptation are the characters. The game focuses on 7 characters (Sam, Jessica, Ash, Matt, Emily, Chris, Mike), whereas the movie only has 5 main cast members (Emma, Nina, Max, Clover, and Abel). In the game, Dr. Hill tries to help Josh through his problems, but in the movie, Dr. Hill studies people and the transformation into Wendigos.
People expect to find easter eggs in most adaptations from their favorite series, and “Until Dawn” has some easter eggs–not for fans to find, but for them to view clearly in the movie. The first of a few easter eggs are the Wendigos. The Wendigos appear in the games as the central antagonist character. In the games, characters can become Wendigos if they become cannibalistic, whereas in the movie, people start to become a Wendigo after living the trauma of continuously dying. Another easter egg is of Joshua Washington, one of the characters from the game. He isn’t seen in the movie, but his file is shown next to Clover’s. The last is in the end credit scene of the movie. It shows the camera’s switching to the ones on the mountain house, where the game takes place.
Overall, the movie was good, it had a lot of jumpscares and had a lot of different ways in which the characters die. The “Until Dawn” movie is a great horror movie.
