“No Place Left to Hide” is a thriller novel written by Megan Lally. It was published on Jan. 7th, 2025, and is the author’s second book. This book recounts the events of both a party that ended in disaster, as well as a car chase to unravel the secrets from the party.
The chapters of this book are split between the beginning of the school year, where Brooke Goodwin is throwing a back-to-school party, and “Ivy Day,” where Brooke goes to her first party since the beginning of the school year.
Brooke Goodwin is the epitome of a “perfect child.” To herself and her family, their image is everything. Which is why after her ex-best friend is found dead at their lakefront property after Brooke throws a party there, Brooke is banned from throwing or attending any parties for the rest of her senior year.
When Brooke’s friend Jena convinces her to break this rule to go to a party to celebrate getting into Yale, she’s paranoid; especially considering that she’s had a stalker ever since Claire’s drowning had been ruled accidental.
The party gets interrupted by Claire’s brother, and it puts Brooke off enough that she and Jena go home. But, on the way, a car begins to tail them when they have no cell signal. Their demands are simple; Brooke tells the truth about what happened the night at the lake house, and she and Jena make it out alive.
Brooke believes that the culprit of this is Claire’s brother, as he was never convinced that Claire had drowned accidentally. He has also bothered her before in the past, so in her mind, it would make sense that he would also be the one stalking and harassing her.
Alongside these chapters, there are also the “Then” chapters; ones that take place at the lake house party. This is where we learn more about Brooke’s relationship with Claire, how they were once the best of friends, and how their friendship ended.
My Review
This book is what convinced me that Megan Lally was my favorite author. I already loved her debut novel “That’s Not My Name,” so when I read this one, my expectations were high. And somehow, it topped them tremendously.
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone, especially if you enjoy thrillers. This book was fast-paced and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading it. If you can, I would also recommend reading it in one sitting or as quickly as possible, as it just makes the experience that much better.
