After episode 15 of season 8 titled “Lab Rats”, fans have been grieving the loss of the captain of Firehouse 118 of Los Angeles, Bobby Nash. There were leaks of an episode yet to release of Nash’s funeral in early Apr. that had the fandom hoping it was an April Fool’s joke. After the recent episode however, the rumors of his death are proven to be true.
Many fans since the episode came out on Thursday Apr.17 on ABC and Friday Apr. 18 on Disney+ want to believe that he will be brought back, as so many characters have done since the beginning of the show. “Bobby’s dead,” 9-1-1 co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear confirms to “The Hollywood Reporter” in an interview about the biggest creative swing he has ever taken in his three-decade career.
“I’ve heard that many fans are upset by this loss and they have a right to be. It’s a loss,” Peter Krause, the actor of the beloved fire captain, has said in a statement about his departure from the series as well. Krause had never wanted to leave this incredible show, and the rest of the cast had fought to keep him on for as long as they could, with no such luck. This major loss has shaken every fan so much that many have decided not to watch the rest of the season or upcoming season 9 that was recently green-lit.
Minear said in an interview that he had been thinking about killing off the captain for a long time over the many disasters the 118 has survived, and thought it was a good time for the captain’s last call in episode 15. Many have pointed out that when the character Howard “Chimney” Han had almost died in the two-part episode, there was a buildup and they genuinely didn’t know whether he would live or die. However, for Nash’s death there was no buildup. “He just got a little nosebleed and collapsed,” a fan commented on the lack of creativity.
The 8-year streak of keeping the 118 alive came to a bitter end when their beloved father figure and captain was killed by a disease in a lab. Fans are counting on the absolute downfall of everyone’s ex-comfort show because of this, and the only reason it was considered a major comfort show for people was the fact that no main character had died. Since episode 15 came out, Minear has possibly single-handedly ruined the entire show for many fans, breaking all of our hearts for his questionable decision.
