“Drop” is a 2025 thriller movie showing in theaters right now starring Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar. The movie starts out revealing the main character, Violet, as a therapist and a mother of a young boy. The movie soon reveals she is going on a date with a guy, sparking interest in the watcher as she leaves her son to be babysat by her sister.
Violet arrives at the restaurant for her date and waits for the man, Henry, to arrive for dinner. She talks to a couple people before she begins receiving odd messages through an app called “digidrop”, a play on the feature of Apple iPhones called “AirDrop”. The messages are in the form of meme pictures that are becoming threatening and weird.
She doesn’t know who it is coming from, and she begins to get more threatening messages directly to her phone. She cannot figure out who is sending them or why they are being sent either. Soon, she is instructed to do things in exchange for not killing her son who is being held captive.
The movie leads the watcher to question every character they see in the restaurant, as some details point to certain characters being the culprit. The movie is very intense and thrilling, causing the watcher to root for the main character and live vicariously through her. The movie also creates curiosity in the watcher, causing them to question who is doing this to Violet and why.
Hints of the backstory of the main character are also incorporated into the film, creating more questions for the viewers and more depth for the plot. It also allows the viewer to feel more connected to Violet. The movie leaves you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next event to happen and how the main character is going to handle it.
The film combined some comedic aspects into the thriller making it twice as entertaining. There were multiple plot twists in the movie that I didn’t see coming and they added a lot of interest to the plot. The movie causes you to root for the main character, Violet, while also being fearful for her and her son. The movie was interesting throughout the entirety of the plot and reminded me of the feeling I had watching the movie “Carry-On” on Netflix, which was thrillingly captivating.
I would definitely recommend this movie to those who enjoy thriller and horror movies and are looking for a fast paced watch, as it is 95 minutes long and moves rather quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed it and all of its twists and turns and the ending was just how I hoped it would be. I would give this movie 5/5 stars and watch it again for its captivating plot and thrilling atmosphere.
