“Bob’s Burgers” is an American animated sitcom that premiered Jan. 9, 2011. The show revolves around the Belcher family and their life as a burger restaurant owner in New Jersey. The family consists of two parents, Bob and Linda, and their three children, Tina, Gene, and Louise.
The fifteenth season is currently ongoing, but the episodes so far have surprised me. This show used to be more adult-focused, with dark humor and mildly inappropriate scenes. However, the recent seasons have focused on the Belcher family, their friends, and their relationships with each other.
Right now, there are only 10 episodes out, but my favorite has to be episode four, “For Whom The Doll Toes.” It is about the kids finding a doll shop and creating a murder mystery in the doll houses. Earlier in that episode, Gene finds out he wasn’t invited to his friend’s Halloween party and vocalizes his disappointment to his sisters. Louise decides to try to make him feel better by staging a murder mystery about Gene’s situation, eventually explaining how Gene was ‘too nice’ for them to invite him. Initially, Gene is upset that Louise didn’t just tell him up front, but later understands her hesitation with words.
I like this episode because it focuses on the two younger siblings and their relationship, which isn’t really shown throughout the seasons. It delves deeper into Louise and Gene’s characters and overall development since the beginning of the show. Louise cares about her family, especially her siblings, for whom she would do anything to make feel better.
Another one of my favorite episodes is episode two, “Saving Favorite Drive-In”. This one is about Bob trying to save an old drive-in that is about to close. While waiting for the movie to start, Bob started a petition to raise money for the drive-in. Eventually, he gave up and went to the snack bar. He remembers Ramona, a girl that Bob met at the same snack bar 25 years ago. She took him up to the marquee, where they watched the movie together. Bob wonders if he could fix the marquee, which would attract more visitors. He was successful and tried to get the owner’s attention. She reveals that she wants to sell the drive-in and that she doesn’t need a petition. The owner tells Bob that he still has the memories of what the drive-in was, and he should dwell on those instead of its closure.
This episode surprised me because they don’t usually talk about Bob and Linda’s past, but I’m glad they introduced Ramona. She was a good friend to Bob and inspired him to do some good, even if it was unnecessary. He still enjoyed the last moment he could with the drive-in and watched the movie with his family.
In conclusion, Season 15 of “Bob’s Burgers” is one of my favorites so far because of the relationships and overall family dynamic it shows. I’m glad that even after fourteen years, they still give the characters the development they deserve.
