The “Patterns Tour” is a series of concerts in North America performed by the pop country artist Kelsea Ballerini, following her release of her 5th studio album titled “PATTERNS”, which came out Oct. 25, 2024. The singer stopped in Sacramento on Tuesday, Mar. 18 for a show which I was lucky to attend.
Let’s unpack the baggage of this concert experience.
Prior to finding my seat, I walked around the Golden 1 Center looking at merchandise and using the bathroom. I ran into other fans who were very kind. One complimented my outfit, and another was handing out free homemade keychains themed around Kelsea Ballerini’s music. They were very friendly and added to the positive and open atmosphere this concert carried with it.
The concert had two openers: Marynn Taylor, a young country singer, and The Japanese House, an alternative/indie band. The openers started at 7:00 and went until around 8:20, having about 40 minutes of performing time each. Unfortunately, I missed Taylor’s set and the first half of The Japanese House’s set. I enjoyed the music, but the performance wasn’t very exciting from the band.
Before the main act went on, a talking animated heart came on the screen giving an announcement for everyone to be safe, respectful, have fun, and stay hydrated. Ballerini started with the title track of her album, coming out sitting atop a pile of luggage, referencing the cover of the album where she does the same. The beginning of the concert starts slow, with the first song having a mellower tune, and then it picks up as she continues to play more songs.
She was very interactive with the crowd, involving them in parts of the song and bringing the energy to the concert. She incorporated songs from her new album, as well as songs from her previous albums that were well known.
Ballerini had multiple outfit changes during her concert, as well as multiple sets she changed depending on the song. Often, before a song, she would talk to the crowd about what it meant to her or something happening in her life.
Her set lasted about an hour and a half, coming back out for an encore after. She performed one last song after she thanked the band and crew, telling the crowd to get home safely.
The experience was fun, lighthearted, and very enjoyable. The venue felt organized, despite being crowded with people, and all of the staff was very helpful in directing people to their seats. The concert was well worth the money in my opinion and I’d love to go again if I had the chance.
