Culture Fest is a day to represent the different cultures that Oakmont students have. It gives students a chance to learn about other cultures and share their own with peers.
Culture Fest was on Wednesday, Mar. 5 this year, and happened in the quad during one lunch. Each club from our school got a table and was able to represent their culture. If a club gets a table, they will get to pick a way to show their culture to others. Students were able to go to tables and observe other cultures, trying food and games. There was also music and dances.
In previous years, they have had food and candy that students were able to taste. There were also posters to describe what each table was about. There were flags in the halls to display the cultural flags.
Additionally, there were other students and staff dressed up in outfits from their culture.
Culture fest is important because it allows students to share their culture with others and build a community. Every student at Oakmont may come from a different place and have a different background, and it’s another way for them to express themselves through what they grew up with by being able to share it.
“I remember culture day the most in my freshman year. I remember learning about a lot of different cultures and trying different foods,” said Reyan Hasan, a junior at Oakmont.
I then asked another student what they thought about culture fest. Culture fest is very different from how others may see it but many had a similar answer and shared excitement about it.
“I think it’s pretty cool how students bring different cultural foods…I also think they are unique and different and I really like how they share their cultures,” said Angelina Velasquez, a senior at Oakmont.
Culture Fest is important for all students at Oakmont to build a community and have fun sharing and learning dances, songs, and traditions that you may or may not have known about, from your fellow classmates.
