Country music artist Ty Myers released an album on Jan. called “The Select”, with a total of 16 new songs showcasing his bluesy country sound, influenced by artists like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Chris Stapleton.
The album cover itself and the title of the album are inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s novel, “The Sun Also Rises”, and specifically the fictional bar “Le Select”, where characters gather. Myers wrote 12 to 16 tracks on the album himself, showcasing his songwriting abilities.
Myers grew up with a musical family; his father played in local venues and his grandmother played piano in church. Myers began playing guitar at a very young age, eventually focusing on music full-time after an injury that prevented him from playing football and baseball. Myers chose to be homeschooled to focus on his music career.
The key tracks and themes of his new album are the song “Firefly”, praised for its vivid imagery and heartfelt narrative, and the song “Thought It Was Love”, a blue-eyed- soul-tinged ballad that explores the aftermath of a breakup. This album explores themes of love, heartbreak, and the power of music.
My top 3 favorite songs from “The Select” are “Firefly”, “Tie That Binds”, and “Drinkin’ Alone”.
I love “Firefly” because of its melody and his choice of lyrics. The song itself is a slow-burn ballad with R&B influences, showcasing Myers’s sincerity and songwriting talent, particularly his ability to craft vivid imagery and heartfelt narratives. This sets it apart from more traditional country sounds.
¨I found peace in knowing you’re mine. I can see the auburn glow in your eye, baby, you’re a firefly.¨
The song “Tie That Binds” is a fan favorite with the use of a soulful and bluesy Texas country track, showcasing his unique blend of influences and mature songwriting, even for his young age.
Myers uses intense lyrics like ¨Cause I´ve been looking for a woman like you for quite some time. I would be delighted to call you mine. Hope you found a tie that binds?¨ and ¨Girl, my eyes rose, and my heart dropped to the floor the second you walked through the door.¨
Last but not least, “Drinkin’ Alone” is the standout track from his debut album and is the most played song on the album.
Myers may be a country music artist, but you do not have to like country music for his music to hit hard home.
