Domantas Sabonis, the Sacramento Kings should-have-been all-star, has put up some impressive stats this year, putting numbers up like 19.2 PPG, 13.9 RPG and 6.2 assists.
With the firing of Mike Brown, the former Kings head coach who led them to the end of their 22 year playoff drought, and former all-star De’Aaron Fox being traded to the Spurs, there has not been much hope for Kings fans besides the consistency of Domantas Sabonis.
Unfortunately, Sabonis has had to accept the heaviest workload on the team averaging 37 minutes. As a result of this, Sabonis has faced numerous injuries.
Against the Rockets, Sabonis faced a grade 2 hamstring injury leading to his absence for 6 important games.
Recently against the Memphis Grizzlies, Sabonis rolled his ankle severely forcing him to leave the game indefinitely. However, earlier in the game, Sabonis also cut the side of his face open. He is required to get stitches pushing his recovery back even further.
The Sacramento Kings have proved with star Demar Derozen, runner up for Sixth Man of the Year Malik Monk, and up-and-coming role players like Keon Ellis and Jake LaRavia, that winning is possible but they’re not able to be consistently winning.
The NBA regular season ends for the Kings April 13th and the Kings are in the hardest stretch of their schedule all year.
Without Sabonis, the Kings may have no hope of making the playoffs, or maybe not even the play-in tournament, which guarantees them a spot in the playoffs if they win.
