If you’re a fan of ghost-related shows or ghosts in general, “School Spirits” is about mystery, drama, and the supernatural.
“School Spirits” is a show on Paramount Plus, Netflix, and Hulu that follows a teen girl, Maddie Nears, in her last year of high school, waking up as a ghost. She finds herself stuck in and not allowed to leave her school, Split River High. The most unnerving part about this is that she doesn’t remember how she died. The only thing anyone knows is that she was last seen in the school basement, where traces of her blood were found.
Maddie meets some of the other ghosts who all died in different places in the school. She becomes the closest with Rhonda, a girl who was killed in the 1960s by her guidance counselor after she got into Berkeley, Charley, who died after having an allergic reaction to french fries that were fried in peanut oil, and Wally Clark, who died after snapping his neck on the field at a football game.
Maddie gets very uneasy not knowing how she died. She starts to think that someone she was close to had to have killed her. She decides to try to find her murderer with the help of Charley, the ghost, and Simon, who is a living person that can see and talk to her and was also her best friend when she was alive.Mr. Martin, who was a teacher that died in a fire in the 1950s found out what she was doing, and suggested she should stop, but Maddie persisted.
Maddie suspects her boyfriend, but after a string of events, she realizes it could be her own mother or her teacher. This leads her to a dead-end, and she loses hope of finding her killer. Meanwhile, her living friends go looking for her and discover something terrible.
My Review
I found this show while doom-scrolling on TikTok, and thought it looked really cute and silly. It was cute and silly, however, the plot became extremely complex and engaging. The show left me sitting on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next. The entire season was surprisingly compelling and one of the best shows I’ve watched in a long time.
I do wish that there were more episodes in the first season, and maybe more flashbacks, but other than that, it was a phenomenal show with many plot twists and complex characters whom I actually enjoyed and related to at times. Some of the actors I knew from the Disney Channel and several other projects, so I knew their acting skills were fantastic, and I loved seeing them in this show.
The final episode was plot twist after plot twist and had the entire fandom freaking out and so excited for a season two. Finally, season two was greenlit and a few episodes have been releasing every Thursday. “School Spirits” has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, so it’s highly recommended by the public and worth the watch if you like supernatural shows, dramas, or murder mysteries.
