On Sep. 23, 2024, musician “Weird Al” Yankovic announced his upcoming tour, the “Bigger & Weirder Tour”.
The “Bigger & Weirder Tour” will last from June 13, to Sep. 25, with performances in venues across the country. Describing it as the “‘best of both worlds’”, Yankovic will perform alongside his band and four other members, as well as the Puddles Pity Party. This combination of comedy and theatrics make the concert a must-see for “Weird Al” fans.
At age sixty-four, “Weird Al” Yankovic is a staple of Generation X music, having been recording hit parody songs since the early 1980s. Over the years, his repertoire has expanded from parodies to polka medleys and wacky novelty songs such as “Albuquerque”, “Genius in France” and his latest single “Polkamania!”. Mostly, Yankovic is known for his hilarious parodies, always keeping up-to-date hits in all music genres.
Yankovic’s last tour was the “Return of the Ridiculously Self-Indulgent Ill-Advised Vanity Tour” back in 2022, with comedian Emo Philips as the opening act. This enjoyable tour featured many of his original songs and “filler” tunes from prior albums. Unlike his conventional performances, Yankovic was sitting down and did not dress up in themed costumes that matched the song he was playing.
However, the “Bigger & Weirder Tour” will be more like a traditional “Weird Al” concert—as traditional as such concerts can be. The Weird Al website says fans will get to see “Weird Al” perform “iconic hits as well as some never-performed-live-before fan favorites.” Billboard also relays that this will be Yankovic’s first all-out live performance in six years.
The first show of Yankovic’s tour is scheduled to be on June 13, in the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas, NV, with the next four shows in the same location on the 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 20th, and 21st. Performances on the 13th, 14th, 18th, and 21st are already sold out, with waitlists available for each date.
Yankovic’s first show in California will be on Aug. 22 in Mountain View, CA. The other California shows are scheduled to take place in Modesto, Redding, Rohnert Park, San Diego, and Inglewood. More information can be found on the Weird Al website.
“Weird Al” Yankovic is a timeless reminder in the world of music that even among serious topics and increasingly risqué lyrics, it’s okay to have some fun. The announcement of this tour proves that Yankovic is not slowing down, but getting even better–and weirder—with age.
