For the first time in a good few years, at least since COVID-19 happened, the Oakmont Art Show has finally returned. Showcasing talent from our wide range of VAPA classes, a vast amount of students participated with their submissions to the art show.
In this year’s return of the art show, winners were judged by art teachers and other staff members with 6 main categories that were on display; ceramic sculpture, ceramic functional, Vector and Raster images, drawings, and paintings.
There were a few real standout pieces that were really something special, but all the works submitted without a doubt were amazing. The effort and creativity our school’s students put into their creative works is astonishingly beautiful, be it from ceramics, graphic design, or even general art class. There was something amazing about each piece on display in the library foyer.
With the art show being gone for so many years, this is the first time many students at Oakmont have been able to see and be a part of Oakmont’s art show, making many excited and intrigued at the new to-them event.
We interviewed a few students whose work was featured in the art show, on their thoughts of the event as a whole.
Kylah Edwards, a sophomore at Oakmont High School, shared her experience with the art show.
“I think that it’s a good idea that they should bring it back,” Edwards said. “Last year, I had a lot more pieces that I liked a lot better that I was able to be more creative on, and I really would have loved for it to be displayed for people to see.”
Cali Kremkow, another Oakmont student who had a few of their pieces in the show, commented on their experience with the art show and what expectations they had going in.
“I do like the idea that it’s behind glass, but I also thought it was going to be at booths,” Kremkow said. “I definitely think they should bring it back. It allows people who are shy about their art to get it out there and I think it’s really cool to see other people’s styles, especially with the drawn art. It looks really cool!”
Finally, we interviewed our school’s graphic design teacher Susan Carmon, about how it was to run, set up, and more for the art show.
“It’s been since pre-Covid since we’ve been able to actually get the opportunity to get the energy to pull everything together and to be able to show off the work that our students have been doing,” Carmon said. “I loved it and it’s hard work getting it all put together, getting everything printed and taken care of, but once it’s all up, I just love seeing it up there, and I love seeing students going in and sharing their work with their friends and stuff.”
In all, the return of the art show was received incredibly well. Although people did have other expectations for the presentation of the event, they said that this year was just to see if they could get it up once again.
In the following years, it will continue to get better and better, and Norse Notes just can’t wait to see!
