Snowboarding is becoming a popular sport. But where are the best places to go in California?
If you’re looking to get into snowboarding and don’t have much experience, Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort is located in the Mammoth Lakes. While having beautiful views, Mammoth Mountain has a skiing and snowboarding school. It has low inclined slopes and easy jumps.
Palisades in Lake Tahoe also has beautiful views and smaller, easier, low slopes accommodated by a practice lift.
Also located in Lake Tahoe is the Homewood Mountain Resort, which uses “Smart Slopes” with moving carpets and easy low slopes.
“One of my favorite places to snowboard would be the Mount Shasta ski park, because in my opinion it’s more for intermediates like myself, ” Sage Freeman, an Oakmont sophomore, said.
If you’re someone who prefers steeper inclines and/or bigger jumps/slopes, those places may not apply to you.
Northstar California Resort, located in Placer County, has some of the best-rated slopes, terrain, jumps, and boundaries to ski or snowboard through, with beautiful views.
Atop Donners Summit is the Sugar Bowl ski resort, which has 13 lifts, 1500 acres, and 500 inches of annual snowfall. Along with its breathtaking views, Sugar Bowl has 105 runs.
Also located in Tahoe, Kirkwood is a year-round ski resort that offers 2300 acres of ski-able terrain with 76 runs. While providing boundaries to ski through, Kirkwood is the perfect place if you enjoy steeper slopes and higher inclines.
Year-round ski resort user and full-time Oakmont student, Autumn Freese, gives her thoughts and opinions on her favorite ski resort.
“I go to Kirkwood every winter and summer with my family,” Freese said.
All these resorts offer different types of accommodations and ways to snowboard.
So, it’s important to go to the right resort that can offer the best slopes for your skill level.
