Yoon Suk Yeol, president of South Korea, grabbed his golf clubs again after Trump’s victory in the U.S. election, aiming to build stronger ties between South Korea and the United States.
For the first time in eight years, Yoon has been seen practicing golf, hoping to set up future meetings with President Trump, as confirmed by Yoon’s office.
If Trump and Yoon schedule a golf meeting, what issues will they discuss, and will it lead to a better relationship between the two countries or bring new matters?
According to the Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Kim Tae-hyo, Yoon and Trump started a conversation over the phone. The discussion consisted of potential dates for a future meeting and key topics to be discussed during it.
The phone call covered North Korea’s military activities in Ukraine, with both Trump and Yoon having their concerns about the situation.
Another topic that was discussed was the growth of North Korea’s increase of nuclear arsenal, launching of missiles, provocations with ballistic missiles, dropping balloons with waste to South Korea, and jamming the Global Positioning System. Trump and Yoon agreed they need to meet in person to discuss this.
During the call, Yoon gave his congratulations to Trump winning the election.
“I hope that you can steer the great America under your leadership,” Yoon said.
With the current discussions between Yoon and Trump, it seems that South Korea and the United States are having a positive start in dealing with issues around the world right now, while building a better relationship.
If a golf meeting is scheduled with Trump and Yoon, hopefully, these topics will be further discussed.
Moreover, this meeting can keep developing a positive relationship between the two countries.
