Kindness Week at Oakmont will take place from Nov. 18 through 22, with many opportunities for Vikings to participate and show school spirit.
World Kindness Day is observed annually on Nov. 13. Introduced by the World Kindness Movement, this event encourages people around the world to do acts of kindness and make the world a better place. At Oakmont, this week features various activities and challenges for Vikings to show their spirit. Of course, that also includes winning Minga points, which students can redeem for rewards.
During Kindness Week, students are encouraged to participate in the Kindness Challenge. This is a list of simple but meaningful tasks, ranging from saying good morning to giving a thank you note to a teacher.
Another challenge, the Viking Heart Hunt, also begins on Monday, where hearts with each student’s name are hidden around campus. Students who find their heart can turn it in for a prize, as well as Minga points. Additionally, the first five students who turn their hearts into student services will receive a golden ticket, redeemable for a special prize.
In addition to searching for their hearts, students can earn Minga points for dressing up for each spirit day. Students can find out more about these dress-up days through Minga. There will also be daily Minga challenges, where students can post photos of themselves doing acts of kindness.
On top of the Minga challenges, there will be activities for the students during lunch. These include chalk drawing and rock painting, offering Vikings creative ways to celebrate kindness.
Finally, students have the opportunity to win rewards throughout the week. Ranging from cookies and cocoa to kindness bracelets, these rewards encourage students to perform acts of kindness.
Oakmont is also participating in the Salvation Army Canned Food Drive, which overlaps with Kindness Week. The food drive runs until Nov. 21, and the class that has the most cans donated will receive a donut party. Students can also get a free Kindness Gram for each can they contribute.
Kindness Week at Oakmont is a great opportunity for students to show school spirit through kind acts, leaving a positive impact on the Viking community.
