Do you think older games are better? Throughout the years, many gaming industries have tried to draw attention to new games in hopes they will become popular. Steam, Xbox, Nintendo, and Playstation are just a few of the many gaming industries that produce some of the most popular games you might know.
These may be some of the most popular, but that does not mean their games are better than others. A smaller game development industry named Blizzard Entertainment has been around since Feb. 8, 1991, founded by Frank Pearce, Allen Adham, and Michael Morhaime, who all had an interest in electronic gaming.
Blizzard Entertainment started becoming popular in 1998 due to the release of Starcraft 1. Blizzard was soon followed up with some popular games that included Overwatch, Diablo, and World of Warcraft. Due to Starcraft 1 becoming so popular, they made the sequel Starcraft 2.
What is Starcraft?
Starcraft is a local multiplayer, real-time strategy game otherwise known as an RTS game. It’s a 2 player game where each player has a main base and workers or robots giving them the ability to make military structures and units to defeat the other player. Starcraft 1 games lasted around 30-45 min. Though initially released for Windows, the game was also released on the Nintendo 64 to be played with split-screen couch co-op.
Starcraft 2 was released on Jul. 27, 2010. Though the first game grew in popularity from its large campaign, the second game became widely popular because of its world cups. The first was introduced in 2012 with a massive 1,000,000 prize pool!
Esports quickly became very popular, but was the game itself actually good?
My review:
I started playing Starcraft 2 at a young age, quickly enjoying the new fast-paced, sci-fi army builder. When Blizzard produced Starcraft 2, they widely changed the gameplay from the first game. Changing gameplay stats and introducing many new units and campaigns were some of the changes.
Throughout my life, I have played many real-time strategy games, but Starcraft was one that always stood out to me. This game to this day is my favorite RTS game that I have ever played. The only reason I can see this game being poor for players is because of how hard the game is to play.
So if you’re looking for a challenge or just want to have fun with your friends, I recommend Starcraft 2, but if you’re looking for a slow-paced, chill story mode game, you should play Starcraft 1!
