Chromakopia, the 7th studio album of Tyler Okonma, also known as Tyler, The Creator, was released on Oct. 28 at 6 am EST.
He rolled out his new album on Oct. 28, premiering with a music video called “St. Chroma” on Oct. 26. It started with a monotone video of Okonma marching with a line of people dressed in all black following, who were suspected to be his features on the new album. In addition, there were rumors that the background vocals in the song are from Frank Ocean, whose theories were later disconfirmed.
Rapidly following it was the first single of “Chromakopia” called “NOID”. The music video appeared to be based on the fears and paranoia Okonma has faced from being famous. Within the music video, each scene has two different versions. The beginning of every scene looks normal but underneath Okonma’s anxiety was revealed. They twist into a mix of all of Okonma’s fears, such as people screaming at him or following him home.
Okonma has been known to have hidden stories throughout his albums such as “Igor” and “Wolf”. The supposed story behind “Chromakopia” was suspected to be of Chroma the Great, a conductor in a children’s book, “The Phantom Tollbooth,” whose job was to bring color to the world through music. This was seen within “Chromakopia” as two of the music videos that he has dropped start in black and white, then exploding in color at the end.
Merch dropping for “Chromakopia” has already begun, and all shipping will happen before 2025. Okonma also changed the look of his clothing brand, Golf Wang, which changed the website to match the color scheme of the new album. This hasn’t happened with any of his previous albums. This new merch that Okonma released features an array of bundles that consist of a poster of the album cover, a miniature of a green shipping crate with “Chromakopia” on it, a CD of the Album, and different assorted bundles of different colored hoodies, hats, or shirts based on the album.
Adding onto his other teasers, he continued to advertise his new album with the release of a YouTube video called “Vinyl”, playing 3 snippets from 3 different songs presumably from his new album. This video advertised the vinyl for his new album which has two covers. One with an all-green case with the words “Chromakopia” in the middle written in black. The other is all green with a hole cut out in the middle which will display the middle of the vinyl through it. The vinyl is all green with the middle being a baby yellow color with “Chromakopia” written in black. In addition, he dropped a video called “Tour”, showing the openers for his world tour, which are Lil’ Yachty and Paris Texas. From February through March, he is in California, first in Sacramento, then Los Angeles, next Oakland, and lastly he will visit San Francisco for his final performance in the Golden State.
