What is “Once Human”?
“Once Human” is a survival game set in a future where a cataclysmic event occurred. Massive amounts of “stardust” were released, causing items and people to change in various ways. The things changed are called “deviants”, and they can either help you or try to kill you. Your goal in the game is to limit the stardust pollution by killing certain “Great Ones” or bosses.
Gameplay
The general idea is this: You gather materials to make weapons and upgrade your base. You explore the world, finding better materials and more blueprints to make better gear. Leveling up also allows you to get more blueprints and stats. You have to manage food, hydration, sanity, and health.
Food and hydration give certain benefits when filled up, and sanity determines how much max hp you have. Food and hydration are replenished by food and water, sanity is recovered by “sanity gummies”, and sleep and health are replenished by activators. If you run out of health, you are downed and only have a certain amount of time before you die, losing some items and respawning back at your base. In order to get out of being downed, you can either have another person revive you or use a self activator.
There are a lot of weapons you can make, including bows, pistols, snipers, shotguns, frozen fish clubs, etc. All of them have their different uses, and the weapons with a higher rarity tend to have better effects. You get the blueprints for these by looting chests and using the wish machine.
Story
You are an enhanced version of a human called a Meta-human. Meta-humans can be exposed to more stardust without feeling any effects. You wake up in a lab and have to get out, eventually meeting a deviant that tries to help you. You have to go to certain monoliths and kill the bosses there in order to reduce the amount of stardust pollution.
Overall, it’s a fun game, the story is interesting, and the weapons are fun to use, though it does get a bit repetitive after a bit.
