“Colony Survival” released back on Jun. 6, 2017, and has been receiving regular updates ever since.
Gameplay
The game is based around building a colony. Big shocker, I know. The terrain is shaped with blocks, sort of like Minecraft. You first find a spot to create your colony, and then you set down a banner. That banner has a border around it in the shape of a square that prevents zombies from spawning inside of it, and allows you to put jobs in for the members of your colony. You want to make sure you manage food, keep your colonists safe, and grow your colony to be bigger and better.
Colonists
These non-player characters do certain jobs around the colony, such as defending it, gathering food and materials, and crafting. You want to add as many of these to your colony, and in order to get a new colonist, you need a bed and a scaling amount of food. Colonists can die from attacks by zombies, attacks by you, and starvation. A colonist can be given a job by either placing down a workstation or highlighting an area for that specific job.
Zombies
Zombies are enemies that spawn in while you play. More and stronger zombies tend to spawn the higher your colony “threat” is. You deal with these by assigning guards, and generally building a maze for the zombies to navigate while your guards poke at them. It is not recommended that you completely block them off, as that will start something called “Siege Mode.” Siege mode slowly drains your food and allows zombies to break blocks if they cannot find a path to the banner. To counter this, just build a maze that either has a two block deep moat around it or two block high walls around it. You should also do this around the borders of your colony so as to not get flanked.
Technology
While you are trying to expand your colony, you are also trying to complete the research trees. This allows you to get new materials, jobs, weapons, and the ability to make other colonies.
Colony points
Colony points are something you get from selling certain materials and can be used to upgrade your colonist limit and your border range. They can also be used to buy materials, such as leather and gold ore.
Overall, Colony Survival is a great game. The gameplay is fun, but does get boring and grindy after a bit. The graphics are simple, and the idea behind it is well executed. 8/10.
