2003 teen drama One Tree Hill debuted on The CW and twenty one years later, a reboot is going into production with Netflix, led by Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton.
After the show’s initial debut, it immediately took off on cable television. The first season garnered 3.84 million viewers and ranked #136. Complex characters, plots, and a cozy, small town atmosphere made the show easy to love.
Due to such high ratings during the first season, the show ended up running for 9 seasons, from 2003 to 2012. In this time, the show received multiple award nominations and won two Teen Choice Awards. One Tree Hill captures the essence of the “y2k aesthetic” and offers the magic and whimsy of the high school experience.
Generation Z, Millennials, and Generation X alike all grew up watching this show. It’s of no surprise that the original cast and creators would respond to the call for creation of new episodes.
On August 30, 2024, it was reported by Deadline and Variety that One Tree Hill cast members, Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton, are expected to revive their characters, Brook Davis and Peyton Sawyer, in a sequel to the original show. Bush and Burton posted an Instagram photo that captured their girls evening with former co-star Danneel Ackles, with an optimistic caption for the future of the franchise.
“What if you really can go back home? If there’s an opportunity to team with brilliant creatives and build a space where all our friends can show off their talents? Our own history? Reclaim our turf? Honor our fans? Sign us up,” the caption read.
As of now, Bush, Burton, and Ackles, who played Rachel Gatina, will serve as executive producers on the show and work alongside Netflix for the reboot.
It’s not One Tree Hill without Nathan and Haley. Fans can’t imagine the series without the couple, however James Lafferty and Bethany Lenz are not currently confirmed to be on the cast list.
No other cast announcements have been made but fans do know that beloved actor Chad Michael Murray will not return as Lucas Scott. If you need your fix, he is working on the Freaky Friday sequel with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan.
Not much else has been released concerning reboot details, but for now, dig those Ravens jerseys out of the closet and loop your Gavin DeGraw C.D.s while you wait for more information.
