Tucker Carlson is fired from Fox News
What will this mean for Fox News, and what events will follow?

Tucker Carlson has been fired from Fox News, with his final airing on Fox News being Friday, April 21. There are many different reasons why Carlson was fired from Fox News, with the most significant ones being The Dominion Case and Abby Grossberg lawsuit against Fox News.
This began during the Dominion defamation case, which began on March 26, 2021, and ended with Fox paying Dominion roughly $787 million on April 19 of this year. The reason Dominion filed for $1.6 billion in defamation against Fox News was because they believed that Fox, and some of its pundits, had spread theories about the company, as well as allowing the network to make false statements.
Rupert Murdoch, the owner of Fox News , Murdoch made false statements about the election to coincide with the pro-Trump audience who was angered when confronted with fact, according to NPR.
Dominion’s attorney had found 20 episodes from Fox that showed evidence of defamation towards them, with Carlson being a main part of the situation.
The other hosts that were part of the evidence given were Maria Bartiomo, Jeanine Pirro, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and former host Lou Dobbs. Dominion sued Fox News and its networks over falsely accusing Dominion of being a cause for Donald Trump losing the election to Joe Biden in 2020. Fox made claims with no substantially backing evidence, claiming that Dominion’s machines rigged the election.
Weeks before the election, Fox News hosted Jerome Powell, an American attorney, an investment banker, and Chair of the Federal Reserve. The company also hosted Trump’s former attorney Rudy Giuliani, and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell on air. During these segments, they repeated the same things that Fox said about how Dominion had rigged the election.
Carlson was called to testify if the lawsuit went to trial, and the list of witnesses had also included Abby Grossberg, a former Fox producer who worked on Bartiromo and Carlson’s shows.
Leading up to the trial, Grossberg came out with a statement that she was forced by Fox to provide misleading testimony for the Dominion lawsuit, and Fox claimed that she made false statements against Fox and its employees. As a result of this, she was fired from Fox, but decided to file a lawsuit against Fox for discrimination and misogyny.
Grossberg said her experience with working at Fox News was “a work environment that subjugated women based on vile sexist stereotypes, typecasted religious minorities, and belittled their traditions, and demonstrated little to no regard for mental health,” according to NBC News.
Fox News will now replace the “Tucker Carlson Tonight” segment with “Fox News Tonight,” which will cycle through different hosts. This decision to get rid of Carlson affected Fox’s stock value, and was said to have lost more than $800 million. Its stock value has had a steady decline and as of May 2, with a value of $32.96 and has a predicted decrease in value at -$0.34.
The other negative consequences that Fox faced after firing Carlson was a loss in viewership.
According to AP News, when Fox substituted Brian Kilmeade over Carlson, they got 1.33 million viewers. This is down by 56% compared to Carlson, who garnered a viewership of 3.05 million on April 17. On Carlson’s last airing on April 19, he drew 2.59 million viewers.
According to VANITY FAIR, people on Twitter are having a field day with Carlson’s firing from Fox News, with one person claiming Carlson to be “Dude, you are the worst human being known to mankind.”
Along with the completed Dominion case, Fox News is also in hot water with another electronic voting company named Smartmatic. They said that Fox made about 100 false claims about them, with Fox claiming Smartmatic rigged and stole the 2020 election. They sued Fox for $2.7 billion in 2021, with the trial date being unknown as of now.
