The world went silent on Jan. 12 when great star Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley, passed away.

Lisa Marie Presley was born to parents Elvis and Priscilla Presley in 1968. Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Presley was nine when her father passed, and has openly discussed the difficulty of  living in the shadow of her late father, who was famous for his music.

“It’s a blessing and a curse,” Presley said in an interview with “The San Diego Union-Tribune.”

Presley started writing music and releasing albums when she was 35 years old, and immediately she got negative reviews of her debut album, “To Whom it May Concern.

“‘Not bad, not her dad,’” one of the critiquing headlines said.

As well as her music and her father’s fame in blues-country, Presley was also known for being married to Michael Jackson in 1994.

Jackson and Presley met when he was 16 years old, and she was only seven. Presley had gone to one of his concerts, and from there a friendship blossomed. However, their romance didn’t start until he was 35 and she was 26.

Although their marriage only lasted two years, Presley said multiple times that Jackson would always have a special spot in her heart. When he passed in 2009, Presley did an interview on “Oprah” and discussed how she knew that he was using drugs and how she feels guilty for his death.

“The person I failed to help is being transferred right now to the L.A. County Coroner’s office for his autopsy,” Presley said in the same interview.

On Jan. 10, just a few days before her passing, Presley and her mother celebrated Austin Butler, who played Elvis Presley in the new movie “Elvis,” getting “best actor” at the 80th Golden Globes.

“I really didn’t know what to do with myself after I saw [Butler],  because it was so incredible and so spot-on and so authentic, I can’t even describe what it meant,” Presley said to reporters that night.

Butler talks about how happy he was that Presley got to celebrate the win with him before she passed.

On Jan. 12, Priscilla Presley released a statement that her daughter had passed away at 54 years old.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” Presley said for “People” magazine.

Survived by her three children, mother, and music, Lisa Marie Presley will never be forgotten.
