March 14, 2022
The 2022 NBA All-Star weekend marked the halfway point of the 2021-2022 season as the NBA celebrated its 75th anniversary and honored the NBA 75.
The All-Star Game was hosted in Cleveland and played on Feb. 20 with the teams captained by Lebron James and Kevin Durant.
Coincidentally, Cleveland had held the All-Star Weekend when the NBA celebrated its 35th season (1981), and 50th anniversary (1997).
In honor of the 75th anniversary of the NBA: the 75th-anniversary team was selected. Although the name would insinuate a list of 75 great players through NBA history, the list has 76 players due to a tie in the voting process.
Of the 76 players, 45 were assembled in Cleveland to be honored at the halftime ceremony of the All-Star Game. Players wore a navy jacket with the 75th Anniversary logo as they walked down a red carpet.
Among the current and historic stars that were able to attend the ceremony were Michael Jordan, Julius Erving, Allen Iverson, and Magic Johnson. Some legends, however, who chose not to attend for various reasons included Scottie Pippen, Steve Nash, Bill Russell, and many others.
In addition to the weekend festivities, Stephen Curry put on a show for the crowd as he made history setting new All-Star records.
Previously, the three-point record for most three-pointers in the All-Star game was nine. Curry knocked down 16 three-pointers in the game. His historic performance broke the record for most in a game. In addition, Curry also set the record for most three-pointers in a single quarter and a half.
The game was close as neither Team Durant nor Team Lebron gained a clear advantage. It came down to the wire as both sides had a dazzling performance. However, marking his return to Cleveland, James took and hit a fadeaway shot to win the game at the buzzer.
Backed by Curry’s astounding performance and James’ game-winner, Team Lebron took a 163-160 victory in this unique and memorable All-Star game.
