The famous Mr. Steal Yo Girl, Trey Songz, finally released a new album called “Back Home” on October 9. “Back Home” is his eighth album in his duration of being an artist and it includes 22 new tracks. This album had such meaning to him as he flows through changes in his life.

“Back Home” being the same title as the song he created featuring Summer Walker, incorporates a throwback type of feel since the song samples New Edition’s “If It Isn’t Love,” released in 1988 and Rose Royce’s “I’m Going Down,” released in 1976. They express their feelings about an ex-lover that they want to return back to.

If it isn’t love (tell me), why I keep coming back?” Songz sings. “I keep coming back, back home.”

“Back Home” would personally be my favorite song from the album since I love the way he includes old school music into it and also how the lyrics have related to me in the past.

In “Rain” featuring Swae Lee, Songz talks about how he has been reminiscing about his ex-girlfriend, wanting to maybe be together again and how it is such a big change with them being apart.

“If it were always sunshine,” Songz sings. “Tell me, would you miss the rain? I kinda like the rain sometimes, every now and again. Ooh, tell me how you’d feel, if it were always the same.”

This song reminds me of being stuck on one person and you really don’t know what to do with your feelings. I feel that many fans would enjoy this song since it gives off a very emotional R&B vibe, which many of his fans are into.

On “I Know a Love,” Songz expresses how in love he is with a person and how he considers this a love that would last a lifetime. In the music video for this song, he shows the bond that his newborn daughter shares with him.

“I know a love, nothin’ compares to you,” Songz sings. “Somethin’ so real, it make me feel brand new.”

This song stood out to me the most because as soon as I saw the music video it gave me a sweet feeling of nostalgia, as if I wanted to be a small kid again and just enjoy life. The music video and the lyrics both made me emotionally engaged.

With love being a prominent figure throughout his album, many fans are hyped for a project like this.
