We’ve seen musicians like Billie Eilish, Lizzo and Khalid make their way to worldwide recognition in the past few years. And with the help of the app Tik Tok, recognition is made easier than ever. But who else has the potential to also find their way to worldwide recognition?

Arlo Parks is 20 years old and was born in London. She makes indie pop/folk music and first started her career when she released the song “Cola” in November of 2018. Her main inspiration for music was the artists Portishead and Earl Grey, and even her stage name was inspired by Frank Ocean and King Krule.

“Their music is pretty good,” freshman Lucy Burman said. “ It’s relaxing and calm but has a good beat; I like it.”

Mikaella Straus, a 21 year old born in Brooklyn, New York, released her first debut single “1950” in February of 2018. She makes Indie pop/Pop rock music and was inspired by the bands Led Zeppelin, T-rex, and Jack White. Straus first rose to fame in 2018 from her two singles “1950” and “Talia” before her debut album, Cheap Queen, released in 2019.

“I think she is really good!,” freshman Emily Marchetti said. “ Her music, from what I’ve heard, is good and original which is amazing.”

23 year old Amir Kelly debuted his first single, “Maui”, in 2018. Kelly makes R&B music and has worked under Pastrice who produced music for Stevie Wonder, Prince, Diana Reeves and more. He said that he resonates with Beyonce’s song “Baby Boy” because he felt as if the track reflected both his indian and black nationality.

“…His voice is soft but the melody flows nicely and is definitely the type of music you can relax to,” junior Draven Klein said. “He isn’t that popular but his music seems to be near the professional level.”

Musician Hrtlss is 24 years old and  was born  in Cambridge, UK. He makes Emo R&B/Trap/Hip Hop/ Rock music and was inspired by The Weekend, Bring Me The Horizon, Drake and XXXTentacion. After a 10 year hiatus, Hrtlss released his first debut single “Teflon” on May 1, 2020 and released a Freestyle “Karma” on September 24,2020.

“He has some great potential to become more popular with teenagers,” senior Alyssa Wagner said. “ He sings some upbeat music that has a dark tone but overall he sings music that a lot of people would listen to.”
