Got nothing to do? Watching movies is a great way to pass the time, especially when we are all stuck at home. Here are some movies to spice up your quarantine.

First and foremost, we have the Academy Award winning “Parasite.” If you haven’t already watched it, it’s a Korean movie that is a mix of thriller, drama, and mystery. It’s about the lower class Kim family who weave their way into  the wealthy Park family’s lives. It’s a genre-bending movie that shows the clear divide between the two social classes. By the end of the movie, your mind will be blown and you will understand why it won such a prestigious award.

Do you love anime? Try watching “Your Name.” It’s about two teenagers that continuously swap bodies throughout the course of the movie. They build a strange, yet strong connection that causes them to try to find a way to meet each other in person. This movie will have you in awe of its amazing animation and story.

Have you ever heard of the cliche of meeting the right person at the wrong time? “Tune In For Love,” which you can find on Netflix, is a Korean movie that will have you feeling butterflies in your stomach. It is set in the 1990s and is about two people that meet at a bakery and fall in love. It shows how the couple try to find each other again over the years as they somehow keep missing each other. This movie is raw and shows the real struggles of two people who simply want to be together.

Do you want something more tragic? “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” a French movie set in 1770, tells the story of two women, Marianne and Heloise, who meet when Marianne was paid to paint a portrait of Heloise without her knowing. It’s a beautiful movie that showcases how two souls fall in love in a setting where they are forbidden to do so. It shows a passionate relationship that will only have you wishing to experience such an intense and raw connection with someone.

Out of these four the one that I would recommend the most is “Portrait of a Lady on Fire.” There’s just something about two people who fall in love but can not be together that really draws my attention. The chemistry between the two actors was amazing and I love how they “speak with their eyes.” If you ever decide to watch the movie, you will get what I mean. With just one stare, you can feel everything that the character is going through at that specific moment. Not to mention, the way that the movie portrays the two women slowly falling in love was so incredible. Each scene in the movie had a meaning and was important to the story. I remember watching it for the first time and thinking “When will I ever experience this type of love?”

All of these movies can be found online and on streaming sites like Hulu or Netflix. If you are bored and want something new and interesting, try watching foreign movies.

As Bong Joon-Ho, the director of “Parasite” said, “Once you overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.”
