Feb. 26-27 saw the addition of five members to Nijisanji’s cast of English Virtual YouTube streamers (VTubers), which has been quickly accumulating members as per the last few months.

The all male generation includes Alban Knox, Yugo Asuma, Fulgur Ovid, Sonny Brisko, and Uki Violeta, each who individually debuted and introduced themselves to a growing audience, accumulating to roughly 100,000 subscribers each as of March 6.

The video that announced their debut gave each streamer a role and unique backgrounds were established in their debut streams. All this is to play along with a story and atmosphere around the group, but also maintains the veil of online anonymity that VTubers use to keep the illusion of an otherworldly status.

The origin of Noctyx revolves around the idea of the group being time travelers, each with their own stories yet pursuing the same goal; a path to a brighter future. Their virtual avatars are stylish, punkish, and masterfully reflect the backstory surrounding the members. The roles they have been given include that of the Officer, the DJ, the Phantom Thief, the Psychic, and the Cyborg respectively.

The song that was released along with Noctyx’s debut, titled “Stuck In The Abyss”, was produced by MATZ and utilizes the vocals of all five members of Noctyx. The song mixes English and Japanese lyricism, features heavy bass and an intense musical composition, all while shining light on each individual member as they have their own parts they sing throughout the song with lyrics that help emphasize their characters.

Many interpret Noctyx’s debut as a follow up to Nijisanji EN’s well received first male generation, Luxiem, which saw rapid subscriber growth that surpassed members in the generation prior to that, Ethyria, a cast of all female members. The same success can be seen with Noctyx and the subscriber growth that followed a week after its members’ debuts.

And despite the virtual streaming scene being predominantly female, evident with other Virtual YouTuber groups like Hololive and VShojo, there are the aspiring male VTubers, like those in Noctyx, that help in pursuit of diversification of the platform and larger attraction for a female audience.

Yet with the lore and story surrounding them, they are still fun, goofy content creators that aim to entertain their audience. And with an expanding fanbase, enjoyable content can be expected of the five members continuing forward in their VTuber careers.
